On March 14, 2025, Indigenous leaders, diplomats, youth, and policymakers gathered at the Manitoba Legislative Building for the Manitoba Indigenous Diplomacy Forum—a groundbreaking event focused on the evolving role of Indigenous diplomacy in international affairs.
The forum opened with a Grand Entry and remarks from Indigenous governance organizations, followed by a powerful keynote address from Premier Wab Kinew on the historical and contemporary impact of Indigenous diplomacy. Throughout the day, panelists—including Indigenous diplomats from Global Affairs Canada, leaders from the Manitoba Métis Federation, and youth representatives—shared perspectives on inter-nation and international Indigenous leadership.
Participants engaged in discussions on career opportunities, international Indigenous networks, and the importance of representation in global affairs. The event concluded with a commitment to strengthening Indigenous voices in diplomatic spaces and supporting youth in leadership roles.
This forum was a meaningful step toward advancing Indigenous-led diplomacy and ensuring that Indigenous perspectives shape international policies and partnerships.
