We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Indigenous Business Directory (IBD) on September 10th, 2024. This invaluable resource, developed by the Indigenous Chamber of Commerce, is dedicated to highlighting and supporting Indigenous-owned businesses throughout Manitoba. The IBD offers a free and comprehensive platform for Indigenous enterprises to gain visibility and connect with new opportunities.
How to Register
Registering your business in the IBD is simple and straightforward. Beginning September 10th, interested businesses can access and complete the application form on the Indigenous Chamber of Commerceโs website. This user-friendly process ensures that Indigenous-owned businesses of all types and sizes can be included.

- Bands as defined by the Indian Act
- Sole proprietorships
- Limited companies
- Co-operatives
- Partnerships
- Not-for-profit organizations with at least 51% Indigenous ownership and control

- Enrollment or entitlement to be enrolled in a comprehensive land claim agreement
- Membership or entitlement to membership in a group with an accepted comprehensive claim
To verify Manitoba residency, documentation such as a provincial or territorial driverโs license or a lease agreement is required.
Business Ownership Documentation
To further facilitate proof of Indigenous ownership, ICC may require additional documentation such as:

- Shareholders' or members' registers
- Partnership and joint venture agreements
- Business name registration
- Banking arrangements
- Governance documents
- Minutes from board meetings and management committees
- Other relevant legal documents
The directory assesses "beneficial ownership," focusing on the actual control and influence held by Indigenous individuals within the business. This includes reviewing capital stock, equity accounts, dividend policies, stock options, charter documents, managerial control, and more.
Using the Directory
The IBD will serve as a trusted and verified listing of Indigenous-owned businesses in Manitoba, offering a valuable resource for government agencies, NGOs, private companies, and other organizations seeking Indigenous expertise and services. This directory aims to boost procurement opportunities and promote greater inclusion of Indigenous businesses across various sectors.
By utilizing the IBD, stakeholders can more effectively support and engage with Indigenous businesses, driving economic growth and community development throughout Manitoba.
